Roof pitch, valleys, overhanging trees, fascia condition, and where water finally discharges matter more than gutter color, particularly with some of the heaviest average rainfall of any major U.S. city and live oaks that shed year-round.
Build a complete scope
- Roof area and valley layout, and the capacity those actually require here
- Downspout count and placement, not just the gutter profile
- Where each downspout discharges, and how water leaves flat ground from there
- Fascia, rafter tail and soffit condition before anything new is hung
- Debris handling, access for cleaning, and what the warranty covers
Mobile context
Rainfall intensity is the local fact that most changes how a system should be sized here. Mobile is among the wettest cities in the country, and more to the point its rain arrives in short, extremely heavy bursts rather than as steady soaking -- which means a gutter and downspout arrangement adequate almost anywhere else will simply overflow during the storms that matter. Flat coastal-plain terrain is the second half of the problem: there is very little natural fall to carry water away once it reaches the ground, so a downspout that discharges at grade tends to leave water standing against the foundation rather than running off. That combination is why capacity and the discharge route deserve more attention here than the profile or the color.
